In nineteenth century London, it is said, a policeman invented a rubber soled shoe to assist in the catching of criminals ‘in the act’. He called these shoes ‘sneakers’, because their soft soles enabled him to creep up on miscreants unheard. According to Wikipedia, an early use of the name ‘sneaker’ can also be found in The Boston Journal of Education, 1887. “It is only the harassed schoolmaster who can fully appreciate the pertinency of the name boys give to tennis shoes—sneakers.” When pictures of James Dean wearing sneakers were published in the 1950s, they became an overnight fashion icon, and their amazing popularity continues to this day. Today sneakers are more than just shoes. They are cult. Maybe that is the reason, why for a lot of people it’s not enough to buy them ready-made. Now it’s time for the next step in evolution: Custom made sneakers!
